US is progressive in capitalism (one that comes to mind is Uber), EU in socialism.

Such thinking work as a quick filter so you don't get to get committed a lot.

There must be chemistry. Compatible minds, attraction, love/lust, ... luck, whatever chemistry really is. If feelings aren't mutual, then I don't see the point of it.

Luck is a great factor. He might have dodged a bullet, she might have made the wrong choice. Frankly I don't give a damn about them. I've turned down worthy people, I've been turned down by less-worthy ones, and reverse. It doesn't matter. I don't have any regrets.

Programmers, like all people, can be good looking, physically fit, not socially awkward(?:, successful, financially stable/rich, confident, healthy, faithful, non-promiscuous, happy, etc., etc.)? and good in bed. The exact opposite can also happen. Most times it's a variable combination and that's just the way it is. That is how nature works.

Tastes and opinions (not only prejudices) can change and people can find themselves compromising as they grow older. This is what matters to me, I don't want to see myself regretting choices related to my love life.

I got so much used to Unity. 17.04 felt more alien to me than when I first tried Win8 Metro. I'm getting old...

17.10 you mean? I haven't enjoyed that release at all, for me personally Ubuntu's Gnome 3 (could be everyone's Gnome 3 - I dunno) is just clunky and buggy compared to Unity.

I'll upgrade to 18.04, but if it isn't an improvement over 17.10 in that regard, it'll be time for me to check out other desktops.

Yes, 17.10 was the latest one I tried.

I prefer using LTS releases myself, so it's probably time to test 18.04.

17.04 still had unity.

> There is a tradeoff between freedom and community. It does in the real world. That doesn't have to be that way online.

Expensive things can break too, or even arrive DOA which has happened to me.

> I had huge headaches configuring it when migrating php apps with huge htaccess rules to nginx

I also had this issue whenever I did migrations between different web applications that used different URL structures. To preserve my sanity, I now do the redirects in the application level.

I predict nginx will get a lot of competition from servers and applications written in Ru￸st. Until then, it's viable as a reverse proxy and serves static files really great.

nginx has a huge headstart though, it's stable, it's fast, has lots of modules, etc.

I'm open to competition in the field, I'm not sure the competition will emerge as fast as people think (just like competition for other well-established software bricks in general).

and already supports HTTP/2 and HTTPS.

I think the way the Gmail team implements new features is quite cautious when I compare that, for example, to the recent Reddit redesign.

Progressive and slow changes, so that the users don't notice them and get overwhelmed is the way to go. I bet Google has the manpower and funds to A/B test the usefulness and user acceptance of any such changes.

It's rare I have to disable ublock, but that helped me.

aaaah, thanks a lot! I did not made the link with the error name...

I believe GDPR is like a pre-annoucement of GFoC but for Europeans.
