Are you sure about that - when I landed on that page, folks were moving pieces around but didn't recognize that they had to fill up the ALIVE text - and I was able to easily grab a piece that another user had grabbed before and place it in the text - which triggered a eureka moment among other players and we finished the puzzle...

So - if that 15 minute meeting is all that you do in that day, would you still bill the client for the entire day? Or I have understood it wrong. Just curious how this model works.

I have always wondered how does one go about restricting user actions based on which pricing plan they have selected? Do they have to code it manually or is there a SaaS / library that does the job?

I coded it manually as the business logic is so Data Fetcher specific I don't think a library would help much. This blog post does an amazing job of explaining the approach you need: https://blog.checklyhq.com/building-a-multi-tenant-saas-data...

Cool to see that post pop up (I'm the author). Glad it helped!

Excellent write up. Do you recommend any books or blogs that talk technical stuff equivalent to this, directed towards the Saas domain in general?

That number is now at 33 - their CTO responded to a reddit thread yesterday - https://www.reddit.com/r/developersIndia/comments/vrq829/eli...

It varies - usually product oriented companies have a good work life balance - comparable to that of US and EU. Service oriented companies are sweat shops through and through. There are exceptions on both sides.

Their CEO (https://twitter.com/Nithin0dha) actively talks about the dangers of stock trading and attempts to educate their users at every step.

There's one feature in their app - "Nudge" - that warns users about a myriad of things, one of which is if they are buying penny stocks or stocks with low liquidity under the influence of a sham marketing scheme.

It's not so much as people shouldn't use their product - it's more about people should use their product wisely and not fall into traps.

Under "what do you do for work", I found only dev related roles - I am looking for PM roles. Since I didn't find it, I clicked on the link that took me to the typeform page. Here it states that you are looking for "passionate engineers, designers, and PM's" - but I could not find the option to select PM as a role in the previous page - I have now registered but hoping you can let me know if you are able to provide PM related roles.

Loved the UI though - Didn't feel clunky like AngelList and was fast too.

thanks so much!! adding PM roles in the very near future. really want them too since i'm a former pm :)

Can the same pencil be used on more than one person? Or does that lead to infections?

I'm not an expert, but my family shares. They are best when wet a bit, so typically we douse the cut or wound with peroxide, then apply.

That said, they are cheap enough for everyone to have their own if that's a concern for you.

No need for peroxide, just slightly salty water is better unless visibly contaminated. By using peroxide, scars are often worse, which is thought to be due to killing cells which contribute to wound healing. Furthermore, peroxide doesn’t significantly help prevent infections.

Noted, thank you.

My main grouse with these REST GUI clients is how much memory they consume. Maybe because they are electron apps in the end, but it's just funny that nobody's devoting any time to create native apps anymore for something that should be a utility and not the main app.

Not sure about Windows but for MacOS, Paw is an excellent Native app. Thought not worth the $50 for me since I hardly ever work on API's.

dunno your operating system, but Paw for macOS is a great native REST/API GUI client.

https://paw.cloud/

I haven’t used Paw because I have very little need for a tool in this category lately, but I’m tempted to buy it anyway just to reward them for developing a good native Mac UI, and not restricting it to a subscription model.

ironically, they have a not-mac version that is electron based

it should be a browser developer tools addon

Most devs who use something like Postman in their normal workflow would prefer a standalone client (or cli).

I'm working on something a bit orthogonal, but similar in spirit: a “network requests” tool, similar to the Network tab in Devtools, but batteries included and working _both_ as a browser extension and a reverse proxy standalone app – so you just pick whatever suites your workflow better today. It's still super early stage though.

In Firefox dev tools you can replay and modify requests which isn’t something I’ve found in chromium browsers.

Why would I use a browser developer tool to test an API? A browser is wholly uninvolved in API development.

because the browser is literally the HTTP client. why would you need to use something else for a very specific case of HTTP protocol interaction ?

Because a browser is not the HTTP client.

It still makes calls, and a proper REST client means you can make POST/PUT/etc on command

That's only true if you aren't testing in prod

> I eventually gave up and switched to a semi-technical product management role.

Could you let me know what your job title is - I am looking for something similar where I would like to work on some semi technical stuff and at the same time manage developers but not sure what title I am supposed to look for.

Search for "Project managment". There is "Product management" which sounds similar but it's a bit different: project manager talks with developers and manages task complition while product manager talks to product owner(and other business people) and team lead and manages product money making and overall future strategy.

“Solution Architect” is normally the role that lies between Product Owners and the Dev team. It’s somewhat technical, especially if you don’t have a Technical Architect counterpart.
