Its like you wanna quit smoking but the Tabacco Company puts a new pack of cigarettes on your table. Its right next to you all the time, you don't have to open it, but if you want, you can.

I'm sorry but as someone with substance abuse issues that may be tempting but cigs and booze are ubiquitous anyways. Being on the table vs the corner store still means it's available at any time

Germany also has mostly 6 months probation.

A probationary period is not only beneficial for the employer, but also for you (which many forget): If you don't like the job after a few weeks, you can quit short-term (as for example in Germany within 2 weeks or even less) and just leave and start in another company.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I am only 4 years into my career and my last employer didn't have any such clause. Hence my indecision.

What helped me a lot was getting up very early.

I wake up around 04:30/05:00 (without alarm), make a coffee and work till 8 or 9. So i already worked a lot without getting notifications or emails from co-workers, they are still sleeping.

Around 9 i have a shower and make a little break. Around 10 i work again till 1pm and the rest of the day i'm still online for my co-workers, but not really working anymore. After 1pm i mostly work on my own projects or do groceries and so on.

What really helpmed me are Qbserve (https://qotoqot.com/qbserve/) to track my productivity and Flow (https://flowapp.info), a Pomodoro timer. I can block social media and other stuff with Flow to don't get distracted in the morning. I don't open social media (also HN) before 1pm.

That is brilliant. Can you share your sleeping habits? And do you use power naps? Just curious!!

Why is it a good idea that your logins hinge on a regulation-free bank account? What happens if you lose your key?

You can easily create as many wallets as you'd like, and keep your funds isolated from a wallet you use as an identity, if you wanted. There are multi-key wallets out there as well to retain control of your wallet in the event that one of the keys are compromised. I haven't used any of those personally myself so I can't really elaborate more on those types of wallets, but it feels like being able to lower risk is a solvable problem.

Solvable, but how much more complex than today's methods? Most people can't understand these systems and are hesitant to adopt

I know there are some people who genuinely believe that's a perfectly fine risk and that it's entirely your fault to live with the consequences if you lose the key.

I don’t see how that’s relevant to my comment. If hearthstone issued scam NFTs then that’s on them and their reputation would be tarnished.

Just because it can be used for scams doesn’t mean the tech is a scam.

It's kind of funny that all 3 authors of this paper claim on LinkedIn/Twitter "it wasn't me"
