That’s actually how I discovered the project.

The intended audience is the author himself.

Edit: You’re reading his notes/summary of the topic. Basically what he’s understood so far. “Expository webpages - For my own future reference. Intended audience is myself.”, see https://vanhunteradams.com/#Expository-webpages

Chances are the author is in 11th or 12th grade. And you two might be on the same page.

(Just joking).

This is not a cleaning process (in the sense of "removing dirt"). One way to create PCBs is to use a board with a copper surface, put a protective mask on the locations that should have traces or pads and then etch away copper from everwhere (else). In the end, only copper under the protective mask will remain. Etching is faster when the solution is moved around during the process. This machine does exactly that.

It could have been differently in which case people would have complained why we hadn’t been more cautious. This might be a shallow dismissal but hindsight is 20/20.

I don't know.

For some, hindsight is saying that it was a big deal. You'd expect that group to be resolute that early access was needed. It could easily have been offered to the elderly. That's pretty clear cut. For sure, if it had gone bad, there would have been naysayers ... but that could have been mitigated by allowing individuals to choose for themselves, and restricting early access to the elderly.

The other group who didn't think it so pressing could easily have been satisfied to wait.

So although hindsight is 20/20, it's pretty clear that Public Health acted against both groups' interests here.

No, we should always criticize decisions that lead to more people dying. People who claim "we should have been more cautious" should also be criticized. Both for being spineless, and for leading to more deaths over time.

From the paper: „[…] two powerful techniques are essential for MEMOIR: first, a set of genomic elements termed ‘barcoded scratchpad’, whose sequences can be specifically targeted and deleted by Cas9-gRNA, are integrated into the genome of cells. Therefore, for a single cell, its progeny inherit the alterations of the barcoded scratchpads, and all the daughter cells can be traced permanently.“

I‘d wager it‘s cost.

According to photos on the web, the display module has 3x LC7940 and 1x LC7942 on the backside.

If you want to convert the display, a Raspbeery Pi SBC is most likely absolute overkill. A microcontroller will do for sure and will be a fraction of the cost.

As I understand it, you just want to be able to control the device. Maybe keep the display as is, intercept the signals and forward them (wirelessly) to an external device for display?

>Intercept the signals and forward them (wirelessly) to an external device for display?

You are correct. Though I am fine with it being wired. The Pi is good since I already own it. Heck, I can use a laptop for it, since I have a couple.

Actually that would be cool since if somehow I could wire it up then I already have a big screen to render things on ,.

That would mean I needed a way to get the cable / signals to the PC. Sine I have an old laptop I might get to run Linux it would have serial and parallel ports if that would make it easier,.

Or some gizmo that takes the wires from the Akai sampler and makes USB

I mean, for one-off projects the RPi is plenty cheap. You’ve gotta have some scale for the cost difference to compensate for the convenience of working with a broad-based platform.

Especially if it’s like a RPi 2040

That‘s a microcontroller, like I suggested.

I also stumbled upon cases in which the backlight was the issue but OP wrote that "the screen while illuminated is entirely blank".

Ah, thank you, I had totally misread that as not illuminated and black. More caffeine required.

illuminated and backlit are two different things, there's a matter of polarization

What would be a solution to carrying lifeforms elsewhere in the ballast tanks? Turning the water over regularily to reduce the distances that these creatures can travel aboard?
