14B model runs pretty quickly on an MacBook Pro with and M1 Max and 64 GB of RAM.

It is so exciting to see that we are once again in a position where hardware is the main bottleneck for new Computing/Software technologies.

I remember back in late 80s (I was a kid) when we had MSDOS and Windows was just starting. We had all kinds of crazy stuff like Quattro Pro, and later in early 90s we had Wolf3D and all sort of software that was limited due to hardware advances.

With the current state of LLMs... imagine how it is going to look like in 10/15 years when the hardware race goes raging again.

It is also very interesting the position of the different countries: China is in a great position economically and with the amount of talent it has; in addition to its culture and political direction (centralized government that finds it easy to direct policies quickly). Meanwhile, the US is in a more fragile stance, with lots of internal fighting and even pushing [intelligent] people out of the country.

The previous race was to get to the moon (US vs Russia), it seems we now are watching a race to AGI.

Oh, good grief. Amazing how people find ways of squeezing Orange Man Bad into anything and everything.

PS - I am not going to stay awake at night worrying that ICE will be deporting hordes of illegal aliens working at US AI companies.

It also runs quite well on a 24GB MacBook, which is nowadays more or less the base configuration unless you go out of your way to buy a suffixless-CPU MacBook Pro.

Just did the same. I've used this app for years and benefitted from its features. It's a shame to see some of the comments in this thread.

I recall Westwood Monopoly (great game, btw) requiring Win32s to be installed to run the game on Windows 3.x. It also required WinG (which eventually got deprecated for DirectX). I have fond memories of playing around with Freecell and Microsoft Doggie (test app for WinG).

Such an awesome service (and protocol!)

I've had good luck using tools like piping large files through `mbuffer`[1] such as ZFS snapshots, and it's worked like a charm.

Ahhh... first programming language I ever played with was VB3 and VB4 writing 'proggies' to knock other AOL users offline. Good times!

It seems like total lunacy to me that car manufacturers are putting essential functions (like controlling the HVAC) behind a touch screen.

With my old car, I could keep CarPay navigation on the large touchscreen while I could simultaneously turn on the seat heater and adjust the temperature by blindly hitting the physical controls. In my new car, I literally have to press the screen to bring up the HVAC UI which then overrides CarPlay (and thus hides my navigation). This is completely insane to me.

Nice! Would be pretty cool if this supported bhyve on FreeBSD.

I would add that Zeiss (ZX1) and Leica (T typ 701, TL2) tried this modern touch-first approach at a premium and both products weren't exactly hits. The Zeiss was even running Android with Lightroom preinstalled.

I mean... It's a camera that was retailing for $6k without lenses. It's already a niche market, and a pretty conservative one.

Disappointed, I thought this was going to be about the window manager. /s
