My wife and I had this exact same sort of situation and now we're both logged into each other's accounts. We never have trouble finding our phones now but it does introduce other problems. Such as not knowing if some sort of security alert is being generated by my spouse and now we have to communicate about it.

Does Android have an equivalent of the "Find my Friends" feature? I assume that would be easier/more secure than logging into each others accounts.

I have no idea why they sunsetted Latitude. I feel like there was nothing on Android after that, and everyone I know switched to Find my Friends and iOS.

Google maps location sharing works cross-platform on android and iOS

Seems like that's what was just released.

The article mentions sharing accessories, but not the device. I assumed that maybe sharing the device feature already existed, but judging by GP's comment that doesn't seem to be the case.

Yeah I'm just assuming that it includes devices as well.

If you like that article I think you'll really like this video. It's about the same thing but goes over a lot more data: https://youtu.be/8UAsN9wvePE?si=Kom5C1u4T7yX29jb

Perhaps there's a silver lining to this. Maybe the remaining vultures have a resistance to the drug and with an abundance of food they will be able to recover? I don't know any of this I'm just trying to be positive.

Western vultures are much less vulnerable to death by Diclofenac, although it's still not good for them. It's a peculiar feature of Asian vultures. Doubly so in India because cows die in the field there in much higher numbers than in countries where cows are harvested for food.

Once the cause was noticed governments were relatively quick at banning Diclofenac and vulture numbers are slowly recovering.

Also people are breeding vultures with the intent to release them eventually. (There is still some illegal use of Diclofenac because it's legal for human use and some gets diverted to veterinary use.)

It's still legal in Spain, and kills vultures there.

As a Spaniard I wasn't aware of this, thanks. I did a quick search for relevant news articles about it in case others are interested:

[en_GB] https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/apr/11/rare-eur...

[es_ES] https://www.eldiario.es/sociedad/alerta-diclofenaco-medicame...

It's less of a problem there because unlike India, when a cow dies in Spain it's disposed of rather than being left for vultures to eat.

> when a cow dies in Spain it's disposed of rather than being left for vultures to eat.

Sure. Do you remember extensive cattle farming?

The Fapas organization was what saved the vultures in Spain since 90's. Its main goal was to assure a steady supply of dead cattle so the vultures can eat. They sow the seeds that allowed the reintroduction of the bearded vulture decades later.

The difference between India and Spain is that we eat the cattle. Diclofenaco appears only in work animals, racehorses, etc.

Most of the time, when you find vultures poisoned in Spain are on purpose not necessarily with this product. That superstitious behavior is getting less common.

Is there any record of the Indian government doing it? Ecological collapses such as this incident are quite serious and it’d make me happy to hear that some action is being taken.

From the Drug Controller General of India in 2007 (the sources seem to be off by a year, or maybe it's just bureaucracy delays) [1]:

> AGENDA ITEM NO.1

> CREATION OF A NEW SCHEDULE-H(1) AND CORRESPONDING CHANGES IN THE RULES UNDER THE DRUGS AND COSMETICS RULES FOR SPECIAL PRODUCTS WHICH ARE REOUIRED TO BE SOLD UNDER SPECIFIED CONDITIONS i.e. DICLOFENAC AND SPECIFYING CONDITIONS FOR SALE OF SUCH PRODUCTS.

> DCG(I) explained that at present the sale of drugs is regulated under Schedule-H (prescription drugs), and under Schedule-X {psychotropic or habit forming drugs). A need is, however, being felt that a separate Schedule is required to monitor, control and evaluate sales of certain specific drugs where it is not desirable to allow indiscriminate and unregulated access. Such drugs- would be regulated through a new Schedule i.e. Schedule-H(l). The specific sale conditions for the drug will be notified by the Ministry of Healthand FW through notification.

> The committee after deliberations agreed to the creation of a new Schedule-H 1 under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules which would be strictly monitored by the State drug inspectors with a specific reference to Diclofenac preparations in respect of their veterinary use. The DCC also agreed to the prohibition of Diclofenac preparations for veterinary use. It further recommended that Diclofenac formulations meant for human use will print on their labels “Not for Veterinary Use”

Perhaps my grandmother has wheels, maybe she is a motorcycle :)

I joke to make a point, but I sympathize with the need.

Spotted the Italian.

I think a lot of people in the office pretend to be less competent than they are to avoid getting assigned more work.

As an American who has never been to Wisconsin this is pretty much what I would imagine as well.

Aside from a layer of grime, what's missing from the standard cyber punk formula?

The main reason I find this a little sad is because I just want to be able to play with the big boy toys. I don't really see why only the ultra powerful should have access to these things. And I don't see why we would believe that they're going to be more benevolent than everyone else. Those are the people who have an insatiable lust for power. Democratization of data and computing makes the world a better place.

I've never done a take-home test before meeting with the hiring manager and actually got an interview after doing the test. I've never done a test after interviewing with the hiring manager and not gotten a job offer. Therefore my rule nowadays is that I only do take home tests after meeting with the hiring manager.

Oh and I should also add that I've never had a recruiter tell the truth about how long one of these should take. They always lie with some ridiculous number of hours that I know only a tiny percentage of the entire programming population could perform at.

Which says the former are using it (and have no qualms about wasting your time) instead of actually winnowing by resume first. Smart to rule them out, they don't value your time whatsoever.

> I've never done a test after interviewing with the hiring manager and not gotten a job offer. Therefore my rule nowadays is that I only do take home tests after meeting with the hiring manager.

I agree, yet there's a bunch of people in this comment section claiming you should give people take-home tests first which makes no sense to me.

Good point, it should only occur when you're on the short list.

Wow this video is such a trip! It's the pre-gpt version of the low quality book scam.

6k is what the book brought in but the author has only been paid 1.5k. And given that the author paid his friends to review it, this project seems like it's pretty close to netting zero.

But you gotta start small. The hope is that one could continue to do this side hustle, until such times as this hustle gets enough income to allow one to comfortably quit the FAANG job without worry.

Of course, not many succeed in this endeavour - it has to be the case, otherwise, nobody would be working at FAANGs today! However, it's not worthless to try.

>But you gotta start small.

You could say that of any number of side hustles that are <1% likely to approach $350K/year. Write a book or don't write a book. I've done a few and it's been a good, if not especially directly profitable, experience (at least in retrospect).

I can make more money in sometimes ghostwriting content marketing content (~$1K/day). As with many things, you basically need to know people to get that sort of work--though that's often true of going through a publisher as well.

How do you find gigs in which you're paid 1k per day to ghostwrite marketing content? I've worked in this space and that seems unusually high. Honestly curious.

> And given that the author paid his friends to review it

Didn't read the article but these don't sound like friends.

I should clarify that the author said he had technical people he knew review it during the production phase. He was not talking about paying money to get positive reviews on the Amazon or that sort of thing.
