Since you mentioned Nier: Automata, I'll just add that I've been playing it with proton for the past 2 weeks. I'm at ~20 hours of playtime and it's been flawless so far (without resorting to any 3rd party patch like FAR).
steam has it as mostly positive, so I'm not surprised. But who knows how many are using the fan patch and how many are not. But many many of these reviews are complaining about the port and it all seems YMMV.
I'm just using this as an example. If Windows isn't getting a port or getting shit ports, Linux is not getting native. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble here.
What a very complete and interesting writeup, thank you for sharing.
I've also recently started using iA Writer, on Win 10 and Android. The program is solid to a fault and extremely well designed, with the flexibility of saving .md files that you can save and export everywhere. Highly recommended!
It's available on Windows (though, it's not great because it uses the wrong tools on this platform), macOS, and iOS, which is a sizable portion of the market.
What I saw in that episode was people being assholes to each other, the fact that they also happened to have a tool to prove things wasn't really the major factor. Especially the final point was a bit off to me, sure, it happens that we would be happier not knowing specific things, but being unsure about things can be pretty terrible as well and just as well destroy life.
We don't expect people to show us their diaries, we don't expect people to retell their awkward memories. We even generally try to gauge the situation before retelling a story about a friend (maybe their embarrassing blackout last weekend is not what we talk about with their boss). This is all in the social rules and conventions, and doesn't have to do with limitations in our ability to do so.
We already have the technology to record all digital communication. Seems like most people can handle this just fine.
Don't be dense. Not everyone has the technical skills to decide which is the best app to message others. People just go with the popular ones or the ones their family/friends use.
That's exactly what I do. I only use messenger.com and the fb messenger app. My friends warn me when there's something of interest on one of our college groups, but apart from that I don't go to the main site at all.
