Siri home-pod mini “Hey Siri- set alarm for…” or “Hey Siri- what is the time”. Added benefit of now glowing LED in your bedroom and you can play relaxing sleep sounds if needed.

Physical barrier could simply be getting a timed K-safe lock box an sticking your smartphone inside it for a configured amount of time

Not op but I just got a home-pod mini and just ask Siri “Hey Siri - set an alarm for …” or “Hey Siri - what time is it”. Added benefit of not having a glowing LED light in my room at night

Okay, I've always hesitated to do this because Siri sometimes set some weird alarms for me. I'll have to give it another shot.

well established companies in an industry where there is not much competition or incentives to make drastic changes fit the bill

All else being equal I agree with focusing on companies that have a long track record of success -- due to the Lindy Effect they're also more likely to be successful in the future.

> in an industry where there is not much competition

This hasn't matched my experience so far. The less external competition there is to align the company, the more employees seem to channel that drive into internal competition for resources and petty office politics.

That doesn't sound quite like what I'm talking about. That sounds 'cushy', which isn't bad, but doesn't necessarily make for a very interesting job.

It does have an optical drive but it is sold separately

A kvm switch can reduce that down to 1 button press.

Hey I follow that first guy on Goodreads. Good taste in book he has.

The alternative is to pay as little as you can, while diversifying the remaining cash elsewhere. For example, an ETF tracking the S&P500

Noopept is a potential candidate for another replacement. It’s basically has a similar safety profile but it’s more potent and requires much less to achieve the desired effect.

Noopept is essentially a peptide chemical mimic. Price wise Piracetam is cheaper and easier to make. Metabolism is similar enough, potency while higher likewise runs into the same side effect profile at too high dosage so is no good.

Noopept should be a bit lighter on the liver and kidneys.

Yes buts it’s inevitable that the child at some point will notice other adults/people who use the smartphone in that manner so the belief that it’s okay to passively consume will be reinforced no matter what the parents behavior is

that's a strange take to me, like why say it? the kid will spend 99% of their formidable time with the parents. sure, baby sitting, grand parents, and over time other external influences creep in, but why turn this into a "yes, but"?

especially when these influences absolutely don't have equal weight.

It’s his opinion because it excuses his own poor behavior. It’s impossible to get it perfect and everyone else does it so why would I even try?
