Almost universally prosperity is gained through privilege, compounded over generations. Privilege being rules/customs/systems that favored your group over others.
To be fair, the traits OP mentioned are heritable, and so to a large extent come from the privilege of having [tall | intelligence | athletic | beautiful] parents. So privilege doesn't explain why you'd feel guilty about one and not about the rest.
If one was aware that the prosperity disparity is predominantly due to circumstance and if one had empathy for other fellow human beings. Then I think it would be a natural response to want to alleviate other's suffering by sharing some of their prosperity. You can call it guilt, or perhaps just empathy. The other heritable attributes can't be easily be shared.
We’re entering a stupid one. One where a generation that grew up breathing leaded fumes elects a leader who gives de facto control to a ketamine cowboy. It’s Caligula, except we voted for it.
have you tried their "books"? you cannot search by almost anything! Extra-strangely, selecting book language is macos-only feature!
Does anyone even maintain it?
My main issue with podcast alternatives is that onbe feature I use is walk into a room and ask Siri to play a podcast. That works with Apple but not anything else. What is the latest podcast has to sync across devices.
However any maintainance or search for podcasts is crap with Apple and better elsewhere.
I'm doing the same, about 50% of the way there. The soft power is why the world admired and trusted the US as a safe haven. Now we're the unreliable bully. No one wants to invest in that.
We all know what efficient healthcare systems should look like, there are a dozen countries with lower overall healthcare spend per capita than US with better outcomes. What specific skillset of RFK do you find as compelling evidence they they will be extract higher efficiency similar to these other nations?
I'm not sure I meant to take a mantle as RFK's personal champion, but my _hope_ comes from hearing his points on prevention and improving the quality of the food supply. The incentives of both the healthcare and food industries in the US seem to be misaligned with a healthy population, much moreso in the US than in other countries in the West.
Just think of all the other diseases that will be prevented when millions of kids die from the following: preventable illnesses due to lack of vaccines, suicide without antidepressants, starvation after DOGE slashes food stamps, and treatable diseases because DOGE slashed S-CHIP./s
Improving the diets of Americans enough for it to have a real impact on healthcare spending is a 3-4 decade undertaking. Without significant support from Congress, this is basically just a windmill that RFK is charging at.
