> The few small-ish phones that have existed have mostly been cheap and underpowered.

I would say that for last years it was quite the opposite… Asus Zenfone was a bit smaller, and few others… all of them being on the more pricey range. I do not remember anything <€500 worth buying…

I remember having few years ago phone from "Note" series… and yet - it was smaller than "normal" nowadays.

For me it just proves how ineffective big companies are…

And how much of a sucker consumers who care about the social clout of brands are

Even if the estimate is correct - end of time and chime does not mean you can open door as it's still locked ;D

I have SOS Inoperative in car. Contacted the dealer, it seems like it can be software issue - where update will fix it… But I have to pay for it. Pay for a software bug!

For me it's just another stupid notification to close after getting in car, just after "no seat belts fastened in rear" - yeah, 'coz nobody here!

Giving me notification about unnecessary things, but when one module failed and got car in limp mode - nothing showed, I was just shocked when car couldn't accelerate as expected… during overtake. Yeah, safety.

100% agree.

But many companies does not understand when I tell them "nice offer, but you should consider someone cheaper for on-call duties, and I can do the rest".

When I was younger I was (kinda) happy to take on-calls, as it was a significant boost in my income. With more experience and better base salary… I simply does not need it and… well - I want to LIVE my life, not WORK (yes, being on call is work, not resting time).

I used to be 50% on-call and it was exhausting. I was just glued to my backpack with laptop in it. It just was BAD.

Even that I had very good manager and if something broke at night I could just disable all the morning alarms and get to office when I wake up… but still. Having all the time in head that you're responsible… nope.

When I stopped being on on-calls it was like HUGE breath to take, and clean the head. I feel a lot better now.

> Also Mi Fitness cannot download data of previous date out of the device

Exactly the reason I ditched it. It stopped auto-syncing data after some stupid android-app split. Like they have 3-4 apps? All similar, but supports different hardware.

In Mi Band 2 / 3 days it was working quite good.

+1, Automation+BeamNG combo is very, very playable!

Is it? New generations are not released every year. It takes 5-8 years to show something new. In the middle of it there is facelifting (sometimes smaller, sometimes bigger). But I wouldn't say that one, particular model of car have new version each year.

There is no reason to release flagship phones each year.

I love it when people say "there's no reason to do x" where x is a thing that the world's biggest companies spend billions of dollars doing. There are lots of reasons, you just don't like them.

The car release cycle is pretty much exactly what flagship phones do too. They get a major redesign every few years with incremental improvements in between.

The biggest reason is obvious: if you didn't your competitors would and they'd eat your lunch. Modern mobile devices are only 15 yrs old, they're where PCs were in 1995. I'm already seeing people who used to upgrade every two years switch to 3, and before you know it that will climb to 4, 5, etc. as the tech matures. In 1997 your PC was obsolete after two years, now they're fine a decade later, and phones will get there too.

Because if someone is looking to buy a new phone and they see the pixel is 3 years old while the Samsung is 3 months old and 5% faster, you’re going to buy the Samsung.

So every maker has to have the best they have on sale at all times.

And with cars, pretty much all parts/accessories will work for any "model" in that 5-8 year window. Phones are not like this.

DevOps, Cloud related topics mostly. Sometimes some guides / howtos, sometimes my thoughts around technologies I use.

Started this year, few posts already there. I wanted to post on weekly basis, but well ;)

It's my 3rd or even 4th attempt at blogging. Previously I was writing in Polish so I didn't bother keeping archive, also the break was pretty long and everything got really outdated already.
