OAI is a startup. All these OAI employees who were playing up their million dollar salaries should know that startups come with risk. How many times has it been said that equity is worth nothing until (and if) it is?
In the grand scheme of the current IT economy, top of the queue for sympathy to me is not "people making seven digit salaries at startup who may have to put up with only making $500K+ at MSFT".
If it's good for men's mental health, wouldn't it be good for women's mental health too? I just don't see how using a community workshop is related to gender.
Men behave differently around women, compared to an all-male environment. It's mostly subconscious, but men (especially the older generation) would instinctively put up a tough front while women are present, and would be hesitant to show signs of weakness, so some would have trouble truly opening up. No doubt there are also male health concerns that men would feel more comfortable talking about to other men.
It's not sexist to want men only spaces, just like women only gyms and salons are not sexist.
I have to wonder how old I need to get before I understand the "older generation". I'm almost 60 myself. I'm not sure that it's really an age thing. There has always been a "hypermasculinity" culture of men who need to look tough, and you can find plenty of millennial representatives. But other men have no problem interacting with women.
But the point of the men-only ones is to allow men to socialize with other men and talk about problems that affect them only or problems they don't feel comfortable talking about in a mixed setting.
You can safely eat 200 grams of tomatoes as the sugar and calorie amount is pretty low but it will make you feel satiated.
Meanwhile 100 grams of banana will have 5 times the sugar and calories of tomatoes (for 100g) but still is pretty fine if you restrict yourself at that 1 small banana.
200 grams of an apple is also pretty safe and is a nice snack.
Making your own bread will have it qualify as non-ultra-processed. Now that might seem extreme for most folks or too cumbersome but today to avoid ultra-processed food or generally unhealthy food is pretty hard. And most people won't put in the effort no matter how well labeled it is.
To me it is more counterproductive not to label it as such, regardless that it may be highly nutritional, due to the fact that people like me who are not able to eat processed food and information like this is a literal life saver.
I'd say the only problem with Denis is that he kept supporting something for free for so long while getting so much hate and vitriol from the community.
I'd just abandon it and find something else to do in life. If Core-js is truly that important than some company would step in to fill in the void.
And maybe I overread it, but why did he start working on core-js fulltime when there was absolutely no financial compensation in sight? It's like investing all your time in a startup that you know will never pay off.
He should have just left the project as is. The state of JS is not his fault. He is not responsible for fixing it. Once the incompatibilities become too annoying, somebody will take care of the project.
> Bette yet: half of Americans believe in conspiracies with superhuman coordination and execution capabilities.
But they are not well co-ordinated or executed, that is the reason many people are catching on to the manufactured narratives.
This isn't done by some Matrix-type entity or does it need to be run by something as perfect as an AGI. All it takes is to have the top editors deciding which stories to run and with what narrative.
Of course this break down as the rank and file journalist are the ones in charge of writing the stories and presenting them.
And the people at the top of this aren't by any matter a cohesive group or a big brother type entity rather just people with money and power doing what they think will help them keep money and power.
When using it for work I never give out specific examples, data, or code. Rather I ask generalized questions like how to parse this JSON object in python and access this property within the object.
What do you mean? MS employees are getting bonuses on a yearly basis, this year included.
