AMD is a showcase for why competition is good for consumers. I have little doubt that had AMD spent the last 30 years as the pc chip leader, it would have turned to all the exploitive and anti-consumer practices of intel and nvidia.
Dominant market leaders tend to lock down their position, while those who are not, must innovate and build relationships with consumers by other means, including support, or open drivers.
I'm just riffing, but it seems to me a reoccurring theme, and one fresh in my mind as I try to migrate from Windows to Ubuntu Budgie, but their lock down of Office and Windows means I must run an unwieldy full VM.
